Flowcrete Supports Cycling Series at Hong Kong Velodrome

Fans of world-class cycling were cheering and celebrating on Flowcrete flooring recently during the Six Day Cycling Series held at the Hong Kong Velodrome.

The annual track cycling tournament showcases elite-level competition in a number of races around the world. From 8-10 March, Hong Kong hosted one of the events in the series for the first time at its 3,000-seat velodrome in Tseung Kwan O.

As some of the best cyclists in the world competed to be the best, Flowcrete Hong Kong’s floors were hard at work throughout the site to make sure that the racers, fans and staff had a safe, attractive and clean surface underfoot.

In fact, 25, 600 m² of Flowcrete Hong Kong’s specialist resin flooring solutions are in use across the velodrome thanks to the seamless, durable and aesthetic properties they provide.

Flowcrete Hong Kong’s systems were chosen when the building was constructed in 2013 as the architects knew that the floors would have to withstand high levels of pedestrian foot traffic, frequent cleaning and the inevitable impacts, scuffs, scrapes and wear of a busy sports centre.

Across the spectators stand, back of house areas and the central basketball pitch, 10,000 m² of the high-build epoxy resin coating Flowcoat SF41. Applied in a 3mm thick, dark grey coating, Flowcoat SF41 was the perfect choice for maintaining a high-end finish despite the onsite demands.

Underneath, the Flowcoat SF41was supported by 15,000 m² of Heavy Duty Isocrete K-Screed, which creates a high strength screed that can survive substantial levels of traffic for a prolonged period of time. Proprietary additives are incorporated within the screed material so that it has an early drying time, allowing for flooring projects to be completed faster than traditional screed systems would allow.

Extra care had to be taken when applying the Heavy Duty Isocrete K-Screed and Flowcoat SF41 on the stairs to ensure that a uniform finish was achieved.

In addition to the internal areas, 600 m² of the polyurethane deck coating system Deckshield ED was also applied on an exposed walkway which would face heavy foot traffic as well as wind, rain and sunshine.
