Multicolor Stoneface Training

Flowcrete Asia has been training contractors from across Southeast Asia in how to install its recently launched Multicolor Stoneface® range of natural-looking wall coatings.

This new collection has been designed to replicate the aesthetics of natural stone materials on either interior or exterior walls but at a fraction of the time, cost and labour that the natural alternatives would necessitate.

The Multicolor Stoneface® range is unlike standard homogenous wall coatings, as it contains a variety of coloured liquid beads within the system’s resin matrix that forms a consistent, multi-coloured pattern when sprayed onto a surface. This combination of innovative formulation and spraying technique is able to emulate a range of natural aesthetics and textures including granite and marble.

Flowcrete Asia is able to provide the Multicolor Stoneface® range thanks to a collaboration with the Taiwan-based construction chemicals specialists Cathay Coatings, which pioneered this resin wall coating solution.

To ensure that the region’s contractors have the skills required to install these coating solutions, Flowcrete Asia held a product training and demonstration event at The iSpace Venue in Kuala Lumpur’s Plaza VADS.

Approximately 70 attendees from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and even as far as Pakistan came to the one-day event. Kathleen Juan, Marketing Officer at Cathay Coatings, began the event with a presentation on the technology behind Multicolor Stoneface® and the benefits of this cutting-edge system.

Kathleen Juan described how the Multicolor Stoneface® range has already been utilised by a long list of construction projects and in particular how it had been applied recently onto the exterior walls of a 54-storey building in Tianjin, China. In fact, Flowcrete Asia’s Vietnam office has very recently been called on to supply 60,000 m² of this wall coating material to a vast factory facility.

After a hearty lunch at Plaza VADS, the event’s guests were invited back to Flowcrete Asia's Kuala Lumpur facility for a product demonstration conducted by Chen Chih-Ming, Application Technical Manager at Cathay Coating. Chen Chih-Ming delivered a rundown on the process of creating the desired texture and colour using the Multicolor Stoneface® system. The attendees were invited to try applying the material themselves, and many of them were very interested and surprised at how easy the spray-on system was to use.

With an unlimited colour pallet to choose from, it is possible to match the coating to any colour. This design potential means that the wall can be made to portray the exact shade of stone necessary for the project, either to blend seamlessly with other materials or alternatively to provide an eye-catching contrast and visual effect.

As the last quarter of 2018 approaches, this is an ideal time for contractors to learn about coating solutions that can be utilised during the typical end-of-year refurbishment projects that many commercial and industrial facilities will now be planning.

The system’s granular pattern is formed without using aggregates, filler or minerals and can be applied onto all types of building facades, such as cementitious masonry, wood, glass, plastic and metal such as aluminium cladding, EIFS board, precast panels, moulding elements etc. It can even be sprayed onto old concrete, ceramic tile, granite or marble that has been previously painted, making it ideal for wall refurbishments.
