The Pinnacle

A new high-rise apartment complex under development in Kuala Lumpur, The Pinnacle, has been supplied with Vandex Super materials by Flowcrete Asia to ensure that the building’s concrete is protected against moisture damage.

Located in the Sri Petaling area of the city, The Pinnacle consists of a 42-storey apartment building complete with retail and office space on the lower floors. The project’s developers, Pinnacle Homes SP Sdn Bhd, have built several other properties around Kuala Lumpur and are known for high quality residential and mixed-use builds.

The project’s consultant specified Vandex Super for a dry sprinkle application on lean concrete. This technique sees the dry Vandex Super product scattered over lean concrete before a second casting of concrete is poured on top.

This application creates a thin layer of crystalline waterproofing sandwiched between the two levels of concrete which will react with the water to form an impervious barrier, preventing water from passing through.

Over 10,000 m² of Vandex Super was supplied for the concrete casting phase, while the Vandex Super slurry application will be specified for the swimming pool, water tanks and any areas of repair that follow.

Flowcrete Asia worked with approved applicators, CWE Technology Sdn Bhd, during the initial design and tender stage right through to project execution, highlighting the benefits of using Vandex’s Crystalline Waterproofing technology while the structural slab was being installed.

Crystalline waterproofing technology protects structural concrete against the ingress of water by reacting with moisture to form crystals. These crystals then block the capillary network of the concrete providing a breathable, watertight concrete.

The Vandex Super system then becomes an integral part of the concrete structure, forming a strong and durable homogeneous body of concrete. As Vandex is inextricable from the concrete it will last for the lifetime of the structure, reducing the need to replace the waterproofing solution, as can occur with traditional methods.

Flowcrete Asia is able to supply Vandex's waterproofing products alongside its own resin flooring ranges thanks to a collaboration between the two RPM International Inc. subsidiaries.

Vandex invented crystalline waterproofing technology in 1943, which provided construction professionals with an alternative option to traditional waterproofing solutions.

Vandex products are based on cementitious formulations and are approved for use in contact with portable water. These properties means that Vandex solutions are suitable for application in water storage tanks, reservoirs and water towers.
