Discovery Park’s Car Park Discovers Deckshield

Flowcrete Hong Kong is working hand-in-hand with one of the island’s premier residential and retail developments, Discovery Park, as it revitalises itself for the demands, expectations and opportunities of the 21st century.

It is important for the Tseun Wan based residential complex that its extensive infrastructure is fit for purpose as it develops and evolves over the years. A key aspect of this is ensuring that its car parking facilities are able to cope with increasing levels of use while simultaneously portraying a pleasant and welcoming appearance.

As part of this process, Discovery Park refurbished the entire floor area of its seven-storey car park. The resin-flooring specialists Flowcrete Hong Kong supplied 26,000m2 of the flexible, polyurethane car park deck coating system Deckshield ID, which was installed by a Flowcrete Hong Kong approved applicator between May and July 2015.    

A dark, slate grey colour was used for the road areas of the multi-storey structure, while the parking bays were coated with a lighter shade of grey. Both the parking bays and pedestrian walkways were demarcated with bright white Deckshield UV Linemarker to allow users to easily distinguish between the different areas of the car park.

Deckshield ID has been designed to withstand the challenging conditions within large car park facilities, as the floor will have to withstand continuous traffic from heavy vehicles moving in tight circles as well as exposure to automotive fuels and oils. The slip resistant finish of a Deckshield ID floor is even able to reduce unpleasant tyre squeals, a significant advantage in residential developments as it helps to keep the environment quiet and peaceful.    

The above properties made Deckshield ID the ideal choice for New World Development Company Ltd. when it was specifying a new floor on behalf of Discovery Park. The quality, reliability and effectiveness of Deckshield has made it a popular choice with New World Development, which has also chosen it for a variety of other projects including The Austin at Austin Station and Double Cove at Ma On Shan.

The Discovery Park residential development opened 18 years ago but is continuously developing to ensure that it remains an up-to-date and contemporary living space. The whole estate encompasses a 250,000m2 area and includes residential flats, a shopping centre, clubhouse, swimming pool and golf putting green.
