What is carbon fibre-free ESD flooring

As the name suggests, carbon fibre-free ESD flooring prevents static electricity buildup without using carbon fibres. It avoids the darkening or discolouration issues associated with carbon fibre breakdown, while maintaining the original bright colour and appearance. Without carbon fibres, modern formulations use single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) to provide uniform surface conductivity.

Carbon nanotubes have a very high melting point, as each carbon atom is joined to three other carbon atoms by strong covalent bonds. This also leaves each carbon atom with a spare electron, which forms a sea of delocalised electrons within the tube, meaning nanotubes can conduct electricity.
