Vehicle Examination Centre, Hong Kong

Hong Kong Transport Department’s new Vehicle Examination Centre (VEC), was completed at the end of 2020 and will begin operations in early 2021. The multi-storey complex houses 3 main inspection hall floors comprising of 30 inspection lanes to handle a variety of vehicle types including most heavy-duty trucks and trailers. The building has been constructed to ensure that it is safe, reliable and environmentally friendly for both users and operators. The supply of flooring was undertaken by Tremco CPG Hong Kong.

With a handling capacity of over 1,000 vehicles per day, the centre will experience heavy footfall and vehicle traffic exerting a tremendous load and stress upon the floor. To meet these demanding servicing conditions, Flowcoat SF41 was used. A tough, durable and low maintenance epoxy resin system that delivers a seamless surface that is solvent-free, chemical resistant, and easy to clean. An anti-slip texture was also added to the system to provide a safe surface for manoeuvring vehicles and reduce tire squeal.

Over 25,000 m² of Flowcoat SF41 was applied on driveways, parking spaces and ramps. For exposed parking areas, 6,000 m² of Flowcoat SF41 was coated with Flowseal UV - a UV stable, solvent-based polyurethane floor sealer - to provide greater protection against harmful UV rays.

The flooring installation was completed in November 2020.
