One&Only Resort, Malaysia

One & Only Desaru Coast is a spectacular tropical retreat nestled on the south-eastern shoreline of Malaysia, between lush jungle and the South China Sea. Known as the ‘village of palms’, the resort is said to embody the essence of her location with natural materials and colour palettes weaving through every space.

With first impressions being so important, the attention to detail at One&Only Resort began in the car park. To ensure a safe space for all, Flowcrete Asia was consulted for deck coating options.

The lower ground floor car park utilised 2,200 m² of Deckshield LBD, thanks to its chemical and slip-resistant properties. As well as being extremely hard-wearing and visually enhancing, this polyurethane deck coating system also ensures the controlled dissipation of moisture vapour found in the basement and lower level car parks.

It was not just front of house areas that required safe and reliable flooring solutions, however. To ensure that the resort back of house kitchen was able to perform at full capacity, the client chose 800 m² of Flowcrete Asia’s Flowfresh RT at a 6mm thickness.

This heavy-duty, hygienic polyurethane screed provides a highly durable and lightly textured finish that is both temperature and chemical resistant, meaning that it could cope with hot ovens, cold refrigeration stores and dropped food or drink.

For the back of house corridors, the high sanitation standards were continued. Firstly, 450 m² of the three-component, epoxy-cement composite Flowcem was installed to act as a breathable moisture vapour barrier. This was then overlaid with 450 m² of Flowfresh MF at a thickness of 3mm. This HACCP International certified floor coating is incredibly abrasion resistant, meaning that it could tolerate high levels of footfall on a daily basis with ease.
