Maritime Square, Hong Kong

Maritime Square, a shopping centre that links several Hong Kong attractions, has worked with Flowcrete Hong Kong to create a visually appealing and high performance car park floor as part of an expansion project.

The building’s owner, MTR Corporation, needed a car park deck coating solution that would tie into the site’s “Ocean & Navigation” themed interior design scheme while providing the necessary functionalities and longevity required within a busy car parking facility. As one of Hong Kong’s largest developers and the operator of the Mass Transit Railway system, MTR Corporation set a very high standard for the floor finish.

To achieve a surface that was up to the task, 2,200 m² of the Green Label certified, low VOC and solvent free polyurethane car park deck coating system Deckshield ID was applied across the facility’s ground floor and mezzanine areas.

The project manager selected a warm grey colour for the main thoroughfares, with bright green applied in the parking bays. This combination of colours complemented the car park’s ocean blue walls and created a pleasant, welcoming environment.

The car park would have to cope with a heavy volume of traffic, as it would accommodate not just visitors to the shopping mall, but also people using the MTR station and the connected Tierra Verde housing estate. This would put a lot of stress into the floor from not just the movement of heavy vehicles, but also the cars turning in tight circles, exposure to automotive oils and the scuffs, scrapes and scratches inherent to a demanding car parking facility.

Thankfully, the robust nature of Deckshield ID ensures that it will retain a colourful, seamless, impervious and unblemished finish for an extended period of time despite these challenges.
