During phase one of the redevelopment, a robust flooring solution from Flowcrete Hong Kong was chosen for the walkways and main corridor of the day centre.
For these areas, 500 m2 of Rustik UV was chosen thanks to its seamless application, which offers a more durable alternative to loose stone or gravel and is easier to maintain than paving stones or tiles, where weeds are likely to grow between the joints and cracks.
This flooring system from Flowcrete Hong Kong includes a mix of natural stone aggregates scattered over a solvent-free polyurethane resin binder. As well as being well suited to outdoor applications, thanks to its hardwearing nature and ability to withstand heavy footfall, the system was also weather-proof and slip resistant, making it a safe choice for the hospital, even when exposed to substantial rainfall during Hong Kong’s wet season.
With exposure to intense UV unavoidable, the ability to choose a UV stable system such as this was incredibly important to avoid floor failure. Furthermore, the noise reducing properties of this system meant that high levels of footfall in and around the hospital would not disturb patients.
After two months, the installation was completed and the walkways were opened, ready to support staff, patients and visitors of the hospital.
