Nanjing was the host city for the 2nd Summer Youth Olympic Games in August and the Youth Olympic Centre played a large part in proceedings. The construction was hailed as the most complex in China since the Nest Stadium in Beijing for the 2008 Olympic games.
During the tender process there were many companies fighting it out to secure the project but due to its impressive previous work for prestigious clients such as Shanghai APM, Galaxy Soho and Zinoro, as well as an impressive 40m2 mock up Flowcrete Asia came out on top.
Not only did Flowcrete’s flooring surpass the quality of many other high profile domestic and foreign competitors but it was also personally selected by renowned architect Zaha Hadid, who was thoroughly impressed with the resin flooring specialist’s real life mock-up.
The project needed to be completed within a strict time scale, which meant Flowcrete’s team of licensed applicators working night and day to get the job done on time. As well as this the construction environment was far from ideal due to cross construction from various companies on the site at the same time.
A total of 1700m2 of Flowcrete’s premium terrazzo flooring system,Mondéco Earth, was laid in the lobby area as well as another 1900m2of the hygienic epoxy floor finish in the building’s music hall.
Mondéco Earth is made up of durable flint and granite aggregates. It is also incredibly aesthetically pleasing due to the decorative aggregates incorporated into the resin mix.
