Located at the border gate between Macau and Zhuhai, China, the underground bus terminal is one of Macau’s key transport links, used by approximately 3,000 buses daily. A durable and long-lasting flooring solution was required to meet the daily challenges presented by such high volumes of traffic, and Flowcrete Hong Kong was on hand to provide the solution.
7,000 m2 of Flowcrete flooring systems were utilised throughout the terminal, starting with the semi-dry cementitious Isocrete K-Screed HDP with incorporated additives and cementitious latex. This high-strength screed provided the ideal supportive base layer, which was then coated with the heavy duty and chemical resistant Flowfresh SR polyurethane resin floor system.
Flooring with high chemical resistance was incredibly important due to the daily exposure to automotive oils, petrol and other chemical substances often found in busy bus terminals. M-Bond Extra was also utilised, acting as a bonding agent and further damp proofing, alongside the screed.
This heavy-duty flooring solution was necessary to avoid abrasions or floor failure occurring due to the high volume of traffic. Deckshield UV Linemarker with light reflective beads was also utilised to safely direct traffic, even with a lack of sunlight.
A positively textured surface, such as that of Flowfresh SR, gave added slip resistance to the area, whilst its watertight nature stopped seawater infusion and dampness, inherent to underground locations of this nature.
The installation was completed within three months, and the busy bus terminal could resume its usual service.
