The floors across the facility would be subjected to constant traffic, wear and use, meaning that an exceptionally durable solution was required.
Flowcrete Hong Kong supplied 10,000m2 of the high-build epoxy resin coating Flowcoat SF41 to meet this challenge. A 3mm, dark grey Flowcoat SF41 surface was applied across the spectators stand, the central basketball pitch and in the back of house areas.
This floor finish was supported by 15,000m2 of Heavy Duty Isocrete K-Screed, which creates a high strength screed that can withstand substantial levels of traffic. Proprietary additives are incorporated within the screed material so that it has an early drying time, allowing for the flooring project to be completed faster than traditional screed systems would allow.
Extra care had to be taken when applying the Heavy Duty Isocrete K-Screed and Flowcoat SF41 in the stair areas to ensure that a uniform finish was achieved.
In addition to the internal areas, 600 m2 of the polyurethane deck coating system Deckshield ED was also applied on an exposed walkway which would face heavy foot traffic as well as wind, rain and sunshine.
The entire flooring project took 15 months to complete and was finished in time for the velodrome’s packed schedule of sporting events, which has included the UCI Track Cycling World Cup.
